Senior safety Mason Gray will miss the 2018 University at Albany football season after undergoing offseason shoulder surgery.
“It’s actually an old injury,” UAlbany head coach Greg Gattuso said at Tuesday’s media day event for the Great Danes. “It’s a high school injury that progressively got worse.”
After making a couple starts at a true freshman in 2015, Gray has been a full-time starter each of the last two seasons for the Great Danes. In his UAlbany career, Gray has made 173 tackles in 32 games.
“So we’re losing a lot,” Gattuso said.
Gray will redshirt the season and is expected to be active for the 2019 season.
“He’ll be back in the spring next year for us,” Gattuso said.
