In 1980, summer pals meant a girl and her dog — and a boy and his frog. Donna Garry, 11, and her Shetland sheepdog Brandy were big stars at the Schenectady Parks and Recreation Department’s dog show on Aug. 4. Todd Weiner had a lively frog. The youngster won the Niskayuna Co-Op Frog Jump -- with a little help from his friend. Other young people were into acting, puppet shows, Hispanic heritage and painting. Jo Anne Assini was in charge of children’s activities at the Wingate branch of the Schenectady County Public Library, and that meant she was in charge of puppets.
