Spa City man charged in shotgun threat
A 39-year-old city man was charged with felony criminal possession of a weapon and reckless endangerment for allegedly threatening another man with a loaded shotgun and then firing into the air behind his apartment early Thursday.
Chad W. Baker, of 182 Excelsior Ave., was also charged with discharging a weapon within 500 feet of a residence at 12:55 a.m.
Police said Baker pointed the shotgun at Kenneth Hughes. They say he later told them that he pointed the shotgun at a person who was not supposed to be in the apartment building. In his statement to police, he said he was drunk and never should have pointed the loaded .410-gauge shotgun at the man.
Baker said when he went out back with the shotgun he fi red a single round by accident when he couldn’t get the safety mechanism to work. He pleaded not guilty in City Court later in the day and was taken to the Saratoga County Jail in lieu of $2,500 bail and $5,000 bail bond.
