Nicholas J Maphia, Sr., 38, of Midline Road in Amsterdam, died at home on Tuesday, December 4, 2017.He was born in Amsterdam on July 13, 1979, a son of Frank and Carol Czelusniak Maphia and was a 1997 graduate of Ballston Spa High School. Nick later attended SUNY at Canton where he played collegiate football. He was a lifelong area resident.Nick was employed as a truckdriver for Hill & Markes, Inc. of Amsterdam, several years ago.He enjoyed being outdoors and loved fishing, camping, and boating. Nick’s pride and joy was his son, and he was devoted to being the best father that he could be.Survivors include his precious son, Nicholas J. Maphia, Jr. of Hagaman; his father, Frank (Linda) Maphia, Sr. of Amsterdam; his mother, Carol (Dennis) Sniezyk of Broadalbin; his siblings, Kristin Maphia (Michael) of Boynton Beach, FL, Frank P. Maphia, Jr., Jennifer Maphia (Joshua), and Marcie (Casey) Russom, all of Broadalbin, Maggie Maphia of Ballston Spa, and Joseph Maphia of Amsterdam; a step-sister, Diane (Peter) Buanno of Tribes Hill; his maternal grandfather, Stanley Czelusniak of Broadalbin; Nick’s best friend and mother of his child, Jennifer Vertucci, who will always hold a special place in the family’s heart; his beloved canine companion, Bruno; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.Cremation was performed at Park View Crematorium, Schenectady. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, 46 Pawling Street, Hagaman with the Rev. Robert DeMartinis, officiating.
