Evelyn Ruth Brayton, age 84, formerly of Clifton Park, passed away peacefully Wednesday, December 6th, 2017 at the Eddy Village Green in Cohoes, NY. Born on August 28,1933 in Poland, NY, she was the daughter of Omar and Alta (Wall) Brayton Sr. She graduated as valedictorian from the Poland Central School District in 1951; earned her B.S'/R.N. degrees in School Nurse Teaching at SUNY Teachers College at Plattsburgh in 1955; earned M.S. degrees from Syracuse University in 1958 & 1971; and her PhD in Speech Pathology from Syracuse U in 1975. She was an esteemed professor at SUNY Plattsburgh and had been a S.N.T. at Madison Central School. Well published for her clinical work in speech pathology, specifically dysphasia in children, Dr. Brayton went on to become the director of the Communication Disorders Center at Albany Medical Center. Evelyn was an avid reader, philanthropist, ardent sports fan and loved playing the organ. She was a member of the Shenendehowa United Methodist Church. A compassionate woman she cherished her family and friends. She was the life of any family gathering, engaging others with a mischievous twinkle in her eye and sly wit that was all her own.In addition to her parents, Evelyn was preceded in death by two brothers, Omar Brayton Jr. and Harvey Brayton; one sister, Rosemary Kelhi; and lifelong best friend, Jean Parker.Evelyn (Bobby) will forever be remembered by her nieces, nephews and extended family and dear friends.In keeping with the wishes of Evelyn, a graveside service and interment will be held privately by the family in the spring.Donations in the memory of Evelyn can be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
