Steck gets important endorsement in race for Reilly Assembly seat
In the race to succeed Assemblyman Bob Reilly, Albany County Legislator Phil Steck announced that he has received the endorsement of the Colonie Democratic Committee.
The endorsement is a big coup for Steck, who is in a four-way primary for the Democratic nomination in the new 110th Assembly District, which includes Colonie, Niskayuna and parts of Schenectady.
The likely Republican candidate is Colonie attorney Jennifer Whalen, who narrowly lost to Reilly in 2010.
The support of the Colonie Democrats is especially important because Colonie is the biggest voting bloc in the new district, making up more than half of the registered voters and almost two-thirds of the Democrats, according to estimates compiled by The Daily Gazette.
"We've had a great few weeks," Steck said in a statement about his candidacy's momentum. "The campaign is really picking up steam and we are going to continue bringing outr message to the voters, right through to November."
The petitioning process for state races also began this week and Hispanic Coalition NY President Monica M. Arias Miranda is asking supporters to gather 20 signatures each for her bid for the Democratic nomination in the new 46th state Senate District.
"My new sneakers are ready," she said in a statement to supporters. "Today, the Monica2012 team and I will be hitting the pavement and reaching into their networks across the SD46."
