Canestrari staffer to run for Assembly (with video)
Kevin Frazier will officially announce tomorrow his candidacy to succeed Bob Reilly in the Assembly for the district that will cover Colonie, Niskayuna and part of Schenectady.
The Colonie Democrat will kick off his campaign in Ganser Smith Memorial Park of Colonie at 10 a.m. and will follow it up outside of Union College, where he went to school, with a second announcement at 11:30 a.m.
"The opportunity chose me in this instance," Frazier said of his decision to run, which was pushed along by Reilly's endorsement two weeks ago. "It is an opportunity that doesn't come along very often to very many people and I'm excited to serve."
Frazier currently serves as the director of communications for Assembly Majority Leader Ron Canestrari. He said his focus will be on promoting safe communities, with strong schools and low taxes.
The field of interested candidates includes Democrats Joe Landry, Tim Nichols and Phillip Steck and Republican Jennifer Whalen.
